Date Snickers Dupe Recipe

For months I have heard of the famous dupe for the insanely popular and not so healthy Snickers Candy Bar. I've always loved Snickers growing up, but as I got older I grew a small but uncomfortable intolerance to peanuts. Not only that, but as I've aged I've wanted to take better care of myself. Trying to live a whole food plant based lifestyle has had its challenges but I am still learning and discovering new recipes along the way. So once I heard about this dupe, I wasn't convinced. Until I tried it myself...

Honestly, it tastes better than a Snickers bar in my opinion. There are many ways you can change up the ingredients you use, for example the chocolate. For a healthier choice, of course go with dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is where the fat is. Dark chocolate is also vegan and much healthier for you. The nuts you use are also up to you! For this recipe in particular I had some walnuts on hand, and they came out great! I can imagine it tasting great with peanuts, almonds, pecans, cashews, or anything you can think of! For the nut butter I used almond butter, but you can use any nut butter of choice. And lastly, the dates. Medjool dates are used for this recipe because they are big and juicy! I believe it is the mixture of nut butter, nuts, and date that gives the same taste and texture of the Snickers bar nougat and caramel inside.

Let's get right into it!

Ingredients:

10 medjool dates

1/4 cup of crushed nuts of choice

2 Tablespoons of nut butter of choice

1/2 cup of chocolate chips or pieces to melt (dairy free dark chocolate if you'd like)

1 Teaspoon of coconut oil

Sea salt (optional)

Directions:

1. Cut a slice into each date to remove the pit and the little top piece at the end of the date.

2. Fill each date with the nut butter of your choice making sure to sprinkle your crushed nut of choice on the nut butter. Place dates on some parchment paper on a dish.

3. Place the chocolate and the coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl. Melt in the microwave for 15-30 seconds, keeping an eye on the chocolate and making sure not to burn it.

4. Once the chocolate is melted, you can use a toothpick to dip each date in the melted chocolate. I just use a spoon and drizzle/pour it over the dates.

5. Sprinkle the remaining crushed nuts over the chocolate covered dates along with some sea salt (optional).

6. Place the dates in the fridge and allow the chocolate to set. This should take around 10-20 minutes.

7. ENJOY!
